Chuniy Park's solo exhibition 'Infinite Painting' showcases 'Meditative Ink Painting' landscapes
September 21, 2026

Artist Chunibak's solo exhibition, 'Infinita Inflorescentia,' has opened at Hanju Art Space in Paju. The exhibition features the artist's recent **'Meditative Ink Painting'** works, part of his 25-year journey with ink, and will run until **December 20** across the entire 3.5th and 4th floors.
The exhibition title, **'Infinita Inflorescentia,'** refers to the sequence in which flowers bloom. Inflorescence is categorized into determinate and indeterminate, with indeterminate inflorescence meaning flowers bloom from bottom to top or from outside to inside. Chunibak adapted this concept to connect with his artistic world, signifying continuous growth as long as the roots and stems are alive.
Chunibak is a contemporary Korean artist who creates unique landscape paintings by merging traditional Korean ink painting with modern Western colors. He has employed various techniques for handling ink and diverse forms for depicting landscapes, adapting his work to different exhibition spaces and projects. For over a decade, he dedicated himself to sketching the world's mountains and landscapes in sketchbooks. In the past six to seven years, he expanded his work to **'Meditative Ink,'** emphasizing inner landscapes and the sound of silence. In line with this progression, Chunibak's current exhibition focuses on showcasing his present artistic world through his recent works.
This exhibition features various works that combine nature and contemplation, including **'Archipelago Embracing Dokdo,'** **'Forest with Mountain Cherry Blossoms,'** **'Forest of Contemplation - Chihwasang,'** and the **'Meditation on the Road'** series.
First, **'Archipelago Embracing Dokdo,'** measuring 130×350 cm, is a work created with ink and acrylic on hanji (Korean paper). It unfolds images of islands the artist encountered, such as the Pacific, Thailand, and Dokdo, on a single canvas. This piece, where islands of different shapes and sizes connect on one screen, emphasizes the artist's accumulated memories and contemplative landscapes rather than a mere reproduction of actual topography.
The large-scale work, **'Forest with Mountain Cherry Blossoms,'** measuring 130×386 cm, is a new piece expressed in black ink. Faint pink blossoms are placed between trees and rocks, with a path leading into the forest on the right side of the canvas. The nearly monochromatic forest, soft flower hues, and the path extending across the long canvas leave a lasting impression.
In the **'Meditation on the Road'** series, sofas in red, blue, and yellow appear in black-and-white forest paths. The artist fills the forest with detailed ink work and places unoccupied chairs on the canvas. These works express the artist's thoughts on nature, humanity, silence, and existence through the motif of chairs.
Chunibak stated about nature, **“Nature is ultimately the final sanctuary to which humans wish to return, and the greatest embrace that unconditionally holds souls weary of life.”** The recurring motifs of forests, paths, and islands in this exhibition signify that nature is treated not merely as a landscape but as a space for human return and contemplation.
Jeong Hyeong-tak, director of Hanju Art Space, explained about the exhibition, “It is primarily composed of recent works,” adding, “Through 'Archipelago,' which includes Mont Saint-Michel, the Pacific, and Dokdo, and 'Meditation on the Road' with chairs, and 'Forest with Mountain Cherry Blossoms,' it showcases Chunibak's current focus on the world of meditative ink.” He further conveyed the meaning, stating, **“Infinita Inflorescentia implies no limit to growth as long as the roots and stems are alive,”** and **“The artist's work, too, has continuously evolved without being confined to a single form, aligning with the exhibition title.”**
Meanwhile, Chunibak majored in Oriental Painting at Hongik University and its graduate school. He has held over 50 solo exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including 'Dongpung' at Kwanhoon Gallery, 'Collected Landscape' at the Venice Biennale Special Exhibition, 'Landscape Journey' at Hangaram Art Museum, Seoul Arts Center, and 'Asking the Way' at Sungkok Art Museum's Mid-Career Artist Invitational.
